I created a water tank with a clay and paper scene inside. The rain was created with a coffee jar with holes in the lid, the wind was created with strings on the props and the sky was a PowerPoint playing on my laptop screen behind the tank.

Final Characters
I animated the character on 4s in After Effects and printed out every frame. I stuck these frames to cardboard to create the character animations, which I shot on a green screen.

The compositing process involved removing the poles from every frame, chroma-keying them, and adding in a digital shadow using a silhouette alpha blend. I also added a VHS warp effect and some underwater distortion and colouration to make the character better interact with the environment, as well as hand animating some of the props.
